Web MD has just posted an article about raising the legal age to 21 for people to purchase cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
The rationale is that as people age they are able to make smarter decisions. In my personal experience of helping hundreds of people quit smoking, the vast majority start smoking at a much younger age with around 13 years of age being the most common. However I have seen people start smoking as young as 5. The main reason smokers begin smoking is to “fit in” and to appear more mature. So I guess we would question if this is going to have any effect on helping people stop smoking.
